A Very Cold Afternoon at the Beach

We left it rather late to go down to the beach.
It was beastly cold.
Here Huntington Bay looking towards Northport.

The ubiquitous reeds and bare tree against fading light.
There were some kids at the beach with their dog.
One of the boys was wearing shorts. Ah youth...

The little boats don't look very inviting.

Luckily Celeste has a very inviting chair by the fire...

...and offers a nice cup of tea.

  1. This is why I stay here in North Dakota. You have to like the cold and then especially a warm chair, a fire and a hot drink. There is nothing better. We are going to walk around and shop for rugs to cover our new wood floor (go figure) and it is 15 out. Ahh the clod clean air.

  2. I wouldn't care if it were cold as long as I could be at the beach!

    Great photos.....and I love Celeste's chair!

  3. Thanks for visiting my blog. Yes I agree - the reason I like visiting your blog is because your life style is town based whereas mine is in the heart of the country. Best wishes - love the beach photos.

  7. Cold everywhere,
we better switch to the Southern hemisphere!

Imagine, we had the first snow of the season last night, and it snowed again this afternoon, while I was driving through the Vienna Woods.

  8. how... beautiful! Oh, this is what I miss, here in So. Cal. We aren't having weather to speak of. Maybe in a month or so, but even then, these images you share will be hard to beat!

but it is cool enough for a spot of tea. sounds really good right now...

  10. I'm getting old and soft - I don't miss the more extreme temperatures of the Northeast coast (although there are many things I do miss). We are chilly here, but only moderately so. I'm much colder looking at these photos. :-)

    Time for tea indeed!

  15. Wonderful pics from the beach. I gotta say that I liked the boats a lot. Their colors are vibrant against the cold, angry sky.

I'm off to make some hot chocolate.

  17. Believe it or not it's been quite chilly here in Australia and it's nearly summer! Snow has fallen in the well-named Snowy Mountains!

  18. I always love the beach out of the hot summer season, when it is always too crowdy. And it is of course even better when you can end your visit with some hot chocolate in fron of a fire :-)

It has been snowing heavily for several days here. I drink mug after mug with spicy hot chocolate, and I read, read, read.....

  20. What's the temperature there? I read it's cold everywhere..except in this region. It's been very hot in the morning and thunderstorms in the evening..typical monsoon season..

  21. I look at that chair and pillow, and think about the pain and happiness, the sorrow and the joy that must have passed through the heart and souls of those who have sat in contemplation in this very chair....it screams out to sit in silence, to close your eyes, and to let the syrup of life pour over you and through you...behold the joy of day gone by...

  22. I adore winter walks on the beach. Especially if there is a cozy spot and a warm cup of tea at the end.

    Such beautiful shots!
