New Year's Eve 5th Avenue

Such a different part of town than our usual Chelsea.

At eight o'clock lots of people wandering around

looking at the shop windows

and the hot dog stands and the people selling light-up glasses

Fire Department people heading to Central Park

and the mounted police out in force.

We look down on 5th Avenue

and down 56th Street.

Tomorrow we expect a snow storm.

Here's hoping 2014 is wonderful.

Thanksgiving Balloons from Above

A rather different vantage point for the Macy's Thanksgiving parade courtesy of my friend Jo Paley who lives very high up and can look down on 5th Avenue.

not to mention NYPD horses followed by

the trusty clean up crew!

                                                                        Cosmos at the GreenMarket, Union Square

In August New York is rather empty of the usual sort of people,

 except ones like the poor crazy lady who lives in the hedge.

It fills up with other people. One day I'd like to go on a bus tour at

night and see everything with new eyes.

Out and About

Food stand on 9th Avenue.

The smiling man took my photo with the dog.

In Union Square the other day, the musician  decided

 to cover up his face which confused the boy - and me.

 

No respite from those pesky squirrels even when

 sitting down for lunch in Madison Square Park.

These workers are setting up the umbrellas at the

 intersection of Broadway,  5th Avenue and 23rd Street.

These planters and picnic tables are a wonderful improvement.

I always get a bit mopey the day people are leaving.

A brisk walk helps.

Fun to let others set the route. So we hiked up to 5th Avenue to look for stuff to put on Ugg boots.

Here on 7th Avenue the bright sun throws window shadows on buildings opposite.

Also on 7th Avenue, a curved window makes fun distortions.

A very tall building indeed. The Empire State Building from 5th Avenue. Lots of tourists waiting behind ropes in the cold.

Amidst the soullessness of concrete, a photographer awaits the arrival of a wedding party.

This last picture has nothing to do with anything except we went into a tourist gift shop to get something for A.'s nephew and Lady Liberty was dangling in the window. See Sponge Bob lower right. The real Lady Liberty always looks a bit fierce and masculine to me. This one has a cetain sweetness.

I walked up to 5th Avenue visit blogger Frances this morning, and was astounded to discover the whole sidewalk ripped up revealing girders and a whole subterranean world.
