Losing Interest Rapidly...

This morning it was 1F with a windchill factor of minus 15...

People trudge around looking miserable.

A dull picture of cars in the snow...

Last weeks flowers are falling apart.

Some blue berries...

What it looked like at four in the morning the other day...

and while walking the dog.

Bicycles huddle together for warmth...

Better to bundle up and go incognito.

Going hatless is rather silly.

On Long Island it looks rather picturesque

and bitterly sunny.

No possibility of playing outside...

So a collaborative rendering of New York City with a man who went down a ladder and discovered all sorts of junk under The Empire State Building... and the Lego store on a day when it was raining.

Back home the Trader Joe's lavender has the beginnings of flowers

but the dog has given up in despair...

Beastly Cold and a Party

The only news around here is that it is bitterly and miserably cold.
10 degrees Fahrenheit as I write. I wore two pairs of pants, two sweaters, two scarves etc etc to take the dog out.
Mostly I spy things out of the window...

There is only a little bit of snow...

but it's clear and biting and bright...

and extra cold in shadow.

The street is rather quiet.

When I go out, I look for spots of color. A bit late for donning the gay apparel. Ah Chelsea!

At home, I fill a Moroccan bowl with mandarins.

At the weekend I had help celebrating my birthday.

My cake was splendid.

Keep warm!

Splendid Skies

Such a wonderful time of year for sky watching

particularly at dusk. On Monday everyone was snapping away madly

on their cell phones and cameras.

I'm surprised no one was run over snapping the sky.

The clouds seemed to boil and bubble.

Later in the evening the 'super moon' played hide and seek in the clouds.

Yesterday evening a blue shaft of light rose from the World Trade Center

and the Empire State Building was red white and blue.

Last Day of the Year

A last few days for the Christmas tree

and green and red on the ESB.

Such pretty lights on Laura's balcony!

A last glimpse of Krispy Kreme holiday doughnuts

and tangerines

not to mention booze

and party dresses

Winter Approaches

One of the first really snowy days of the season.

I walked up to Broadway

and headed to Union Square

where people were picking out trees

and dressed in festive costumes.

Snow dusted the holly

and the apples

It decorated almost everything.

It snowed in the early evening as shoppers hurried home 

It continued into the night.

Going and Coming

One of the good things about living in New York is not owning a car.

So when we occasionally rent one it's rather exciting.

The Midtown Tunnel is always much too yellow.

I did have a picture of nice little weeds growing in a lawn but managed to lose it.

Manhattan is always exciting to return to, but almost impossible to get a photo of it from the Expressway.
