Splendid Skies

Such a wonderful time of year for sky watching

particularly at dusk. On Monday everyone was snapping away madly

on their cell phones and cameras.

I'm surprised no one was run over snapping the sky.

The clouds seemed to boil and bubble.

Later in the evening the 'super moon' played hide and seek in the clouds.

Yesterday evening a blue shaft of light rose from the World Trade Center

and the Empire State Building was red white and blue.

Downtown

On Monday I had to go to Broad Street for a meeting and emerged at the World Trade Center subway stop. Lots of tourists bustling about and lots of business types too. As always, I was impressed by the progress on the new Freedom Tower with its dramatic reflections.

St. Paul's church, to me, is much lovelier --harking back to a very, very old New York --reminding me almost of England.

Foursquare and sturdy.

The graves look suitably aged and peaceful.  I thought (as I always do almost against my will) of how it was eleven years ago when the pile was still smoking and everything was awful. Then I walked through the busy, milling crowds to my meeting.

Downtown

Had to go to J&R Camera downtown . Subway to World Trade Center where things are actually being built at last. St. Paul's Churchyard in need of a spring raking.

Such a clear, bright (cold!) day.

Lower Manhattan

I had occasion to go downtown today on an errand.

The paths were slick with ice in the little park by City Hall.

Rain was falling on top of ice and droplets were decorating twigs and fountains.

It was all rather pretty --if damp.

St Paul's church is lovely in itself, even if one didn't know its role

as a respite for the rescue workers after the Trade Center attacks.

Beyond the peaceful graveyard, the new buildings grow apace.
