Wet Day on the High Line

The good thing about having visitors from England

is that they are quite happy to go for walks in the rain. This is a great blessing since the High Line has become a big attraction in its second year now the plantings are becoming established.

So very few other people about to impede one's view of the vegetation.

Visitor's cape/plastic bag/ hoodie a snip at $1.63. Not the most elegant but no one was there to comment....

there were lots and lots of sparrows feasting on the grasses.
Here they are sitting in a row on the railing.

Here they are all over the place

and  feasting merrily in the tall grass.

Damp grass plumes

damp visitors

learning about the lovely stained glass windows --all the colors of the water

and bits of grass and flowers trying to escape as we go down the stairs by 14th Street.

Happy Halloween.

  3. Elizabeth, I always think of you as the one who introduced me to the joys of walking along the High Line (on a hot sunny summer day) and do hope to eventually get back over there for a 2011 update on the extended length of the HL.

It was grand to see you this morning, and hoping I was not too rude in my quick departure, and sorry to have missed seeing you downtown. (See email for more.)

    xo to you and yours.

  7. Thank you for this nice walk in New York, where I have never been! I love the photos of the vegetation with all those sparrows.
I bought similar capes when my Australian visitor and I were sight seeing in Gouda and it started to rain.
Dear me, did it really snow in New York? That's very early, isn't it?
