Memorial Day. A good day for biking beside the Hudson to the very tip of Manhattan and seeing Lady Liberty...
or taking out a sailboat or maybe a kayak.
A good place, too, for a photo op.
A cruise perhaps?
I liked the crisply clad sailors buying tickets for the Circle Line.
Southstreet Seaport has such a variety of craft from the very old...
to the rather alarming Shark.
Brooklyn Bridge echoing the furled sails of
the Clipper City
which set out with lots of French tourists on board.
Southstreet Seaport was horribly flooded during Hurricane Sandy and almost all of the shops remain closed. I was last there about a week after the hurricane when they were removing damaged goods from the businesses. I suppose most are in process of refurbishment.
I WOULD LIKE A RIDE ON THE CLIPPER, Elizabeth!!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, I do like the look of your seafaring photographs. Wasn't it grand to have the sun shining again?

What a lovely day out. Thanks for the wonderful tour.
ReplyDeleteOn my two trips to NY I wanted to take a Circle Line but wasn't able to go. I so miss living by the ocean.
It was a wonderful day in Tucson the blue sky and clouds were amazing. My "water" was a jump in the pool.
cheers, parsnip
I love the way you capture scale on your photographs! The views over the water look endless, and Lady Liberty so tiny!
ReplyDeleteLove the sailors. 'On the Town' come to life.
I never get tired of your photos. Your profile pic of the Moroccan window (I assume) is perfect.
ReplyDeleteI really like that Southstreet Seaport one at the end. Beautiful buildings. I hope the shops open again eventually.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing those gorgeous photos Elizabeth. We have many of the same views too. Brings back such lovely memories.
ReplyDeleteThe weather was superb for this series of lovely photos, I particularly liked the one with the old ship in the foreground of the modern buildings. Quite startling.
ReplyDeleteThat was a grand tour Elizabeth, and I can only but imagine the houses and businesses that are still trying to get on their feet after Sandy.
Looks lovely E!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth! It is so lovely to be here and to see beautiful NYC through your eyes and beautiful photographs. And then to see the pale green woodlands in the spring, so different but both places with so much energy and life. Thank you for sharing...

is it fleet week and hence the sailors? southstreet seaport was one of my first ever "adventures" in nyc back in very late 80s. don't remember how i got there, but i got a ride in a police cruiser back to my hotel...with an offer for a date (took a rain check).
ReplyDeletelovely pictures, lovely weather, sigh...
How great to have such bright weather for your outing along the water. Fun photos.
ReplyDeleteLovely watery post today brings back memories of our last visit to NY
ReplyDeleteYou obviously had a gloriously sunny day for your Memorial Day Elizabeth. Those shots by Liberty brought back memories of our stay in NYC
ReplyDeleteThat's funny - sailors with time off going on a boat.
ReplyDeleteOh, lovely... this was Memorial Day perfection...sun, sea, sky... :o) We're having spring at last here, would you believe?! Happy Weekend, Elizabeth ((HUGS))
