Shadows and Reflections/ShadowShotSunday

Go to HeyHarriet for more shadow shots from round the world.

It has been sunny this week.
A great thrill.
A seat on a deck overlooking the Hudson.

Diamonds of light glittering off the Hudson's gray water.

A metal fire escape on West 22nd Street.

These last two left over from our visit to MoMa.
Water is poured in trained-waiter style
and the wretched orange thing is reflected in the window.

A camp outing at the same place.

Well...........

I don't think anyone wears boaters any more.
This character lives on the side of a magazine stand on the 54th
Street subway stop.
Question: Why does New York love him?

Quite near Macy's is a very strange food place.
They sell absolutely everything guaranteed to make you fat.

Ice cream, fries, doughnuts, hot dogs etc. etc.
It is really pretty scary.

It was so awful it mesmerized me.

After that, the balm of a bright white cloud.

Abstracty Things and Some Food

Heading uptown to MoMa, a rather patriotic train.

More red and stripes on the escalator at 54th Street. We are
lucky Claudia works for a museum and we can bypass
the horrible long lines with a gazillion, poor, patient people
waiting to get in. I feel a bit guilty but even so.......

The building almost always impresses me more than anything else.

Such angles and vistas. We go to the Ensor show which is quirky
and batty and made me think of the work of David Shrigley which
I love in its utter insanity. Ensor lived in his parents' attic for
many, many  years...........hm..............

Anyway, any good museum visit brings on a desire for snacks,
so we went to one of their cafes high up overlooking the garden
where the croissant was perfect: crispy outside and light inside.

Wednesday

Morning: Skateboard kidz act cool on 23rd Street.

Afternoon: A little bird cheeps on 22nd Street. Paz take note.

Evening: Looking down from the High Line.
Such long shadows.

More of the same.
By  happy chance we ran into BonBonOiseau
and talked about Morocco.

Night. Same place.

Simple Things

Christina of Soul Aperture is hosting a celebration of simple things.
Go here to join in.

This is not the finest example of a dahlia plant,
but it's rather touching anyway.

Reflections in a door on 21st Street.

White clouds seen from a building at Robert Moses beach.

My favorite milk jug bathed in morning light.

Monday at the Beach

The bright blue sky, the kite, the umbrella.
Everything exactly the right color.

Not to mention the flags.

People bring all this stuff to the beach and have to carry it.

How much more fun to simply stand at the water's edge.

Celebrate

An explosion of midsummer flowers on 26th Street.

For the first time, the Macy's fireworks were on the Hudson River.
Very lucky for us. So we went up onto the roof.
And took not-very-good pictures.

Fireworks much better seen by the naked eye.
That's New Jersey in the distance.

OOOOOOOOOOH! AHHHHHHHH!

At ten, the fireworks audience walked up 23rd Street heading for the subway.
The dog was astounded.

Green Market for the 4th

The green market at Union Square was lovely yesterday.
Then I discovered I had left my camera at home
so into the breech steps celebrity guest photographer
Adam Powell with his trusty cell phone.
Hydrangeas.

Ripe tomatoes.

Strawberries galore.........

and some daikon
(many thanks to those who identified them!)

Here's hoping you and yours have blues skies
good food and good company.
HAPPY 4th

Night Scenes

Looking down from the High Line at Hogs and Heifers.

And at picnic tables that look like Legos.

Nearer home Dallas Barbecue's lights paint the sidewalk pink.

Who would have figured on cupcakes' popularity at 9:30 at night?

The moon and a plane overhead.

Keeping Busy

These men have escaped from one of Robert's paintings.
(cut out paper propped on the window )

This wire man walks round a shelf near the ceiling.
He once had an umbrella drink.

This singer plays funky blues every day.
Corner of 23rd St and 7th Avenue.

The snacks from the independent film aren't so good
as the ones provided by Law and Order. Oh, well.

In the Meatpacking District men with a message.

It's graduation season.

Daryl Fashionista visits the High Line and poses in
front of the amazing stained glass.
