Waiting for Their Morning Walk/Shadowshotsunday

These characters usually live over on Buster's blog but
the shadows and color contrasts were rather fun.

For other shadowshots from around the world go here.

The Little Garden Survives/Shadowshot Sunday

For more shadowshots from around the world go

A little jaded and worse for wear but still there............

in spite of taxis and garbage and everything else........

Luis Lujan's garden (25th Street and 9th Avenue) had a pretty rough week.
It was pretty much dug up when they redid the concrete surround.
But with care and attention it has rebounded.

my main blog is now here

The Museum of Natural History

A perfect choice for a rainy day. The place was positively seething with camp groups and tourists and New Yorkers.........

The African lions look so noble and regal. I think the male lion looks a little like Buster .....

The shell-man in a sort of burqua -- so utterly, mind-spinningly bizarre.
Can he really be called 'Mo' as his tie suggests?
And his chum the straw-man (to his right) whose name we will have to imagine......

So much to ponder and photograph.....

My mother-in-law once had a hat exactly like this one, but we lent it to Evan
 one Halloween and it hasn't
been seen since.  I've  never had nearly so splendid to attach to my chin.

Chelsea Angles

New York is such a vertical city that much of my time is spent looking either upwards or downwards.
Here a nice dramatic, stormy sky over the High Line.

Here looking down on 14th Street from the new Standard Hotel
-- a mecca for hipsters. Definitely not recommended for those
put off by large doses of snarky attitude.

Joe Pie weed, that usually loves growing in swamps, seems pretty cheerful on the elevated tracks.

Reya often takes pictures of reflections in cars. It works best when the cars are super clean. Here is 24th Street looking askew.

This blog is all about New York, but I sometimes long for England. My list of wonderful English bloggers is long, but when I want to relish English design/illustration at its best I go to Valerie Greeley's Acornmoon. She has kindly mentioned me in a recent post.
You can see how her world is so very different from mine. This is the joy of blogging, I think, that we can have glimpses into other people's worlds. Some thumb nails of her world below.

The Norwegian Epic Arrives in Chelsea

I love the little red tug boat

The Norwegian Epic sailing up the Hudson in exactly the same place as the famous airplane drifted down.....
It had just crossed the Atlantic for the first time. I was standing waving like mad but don't think my brother and his wife could see me and the dog!

From Above

The kids are having a wonderful party in a room from which the roof has been removed.

There seems to be a preponderance of girls....... and how quiet the level below is in contrast.

Then night fell and the almost full moon rose over the Chelsea Hotel.

Coney Island

One of the reasons for going to Coney Island is to eat all the stuff that's terrifically bad for you
-- but miraculously has no calories when eaten in the fresh air.

You can wear whatever you want --even blend in with the scenery....

You can buy all sorts of cool plastic stuff

 and show off your tats

wear extra special headgear when participating in the Mermaid Parade

and sit facing the boardwalk

and listen to music.

Robert' s pictures of the same event are here

Estate Sale Long Island

How some people love to pore over the things other people want to sell or discard!
I think it is the thrill of the hunt-- that at any moment the most wonderfu treasure will be unearthed.

To be honest, I only go to these things when friends want to go, but I know they are sadly addictive.

The coffee cups were rather charming.....

.......boxes of other stuff less so

This child's dress  was exquisitely clean.

A Glimpse of Scarlet

........and so this cop goes up to the cash machine......
you can make up your own joke here

Whenever the weather is nice, a group gathers on the benches in the little park at Penn South.

The little girl has a very New York backpack!

This is left over from last week's trip to the beach on Long Island but I liked the walker's costume.

Do you think this couple did this on purpose of was it merely a co-incidence?

People at bus stops naturally organize themselves into compositions.......
