Red and Yellow and Bicycles

Ha-Ha Fresh on 9th Avenue in the early morning.
Much better to have a bike than a car in the city.

A street fair on Saturday afternoon on 8th Avenue......
with lots of food and the requisite bicycle.

One of the good things about street fairs is that you can hang around in the
middle of the road where you would not usually be and look straight up the avenue.

For some reason this is a very red, yellow and green post.

Bicycles and Battery Park

Our bikes leaning against a tree.
New York is becoming more bike friendly which is good with more bike lanes all over the place. We can get from 23rd St. across to the Hudson River Park without immediate danger to life and limb.
Our bikes are ancient, and we allow bumper stickers on them. Place specific like reading People Magazine only at the nail parlor, and drinking Hawaii at shwerma restaurants.

R's has Sponge Bob and 'Montauk:The End'. I have a Rocket Dog shoes sticker - reminds me of Skippy - and Amnesty International.

Tourists admiring the wide reaches of the harbor.
My mother, arriving on a ship from England for a visit circa 1983, said she cried when the ship's orchestra played Dvorjak's "New World" as they sailed in.

Lots of lines to wait on to catch the boat to Ellis Island. But lots to look at.

For some reason, they have never finished restoring the building to the right. Ten years and still not done but an architectural gem.
The memorial for the drowning people is sad.

From the Roof

Robert took these pictures the other day from the roof of our building. I can always rely on him to see the world a little differently than I do. In fact he uses some of his photos as jumping off places for his pictures. Take your own pictures and turn them into super calendars  . They make excellent gifts too!

Anyway, looking east you can see the Chelsea Hotel - a most bizarre and interesting place. Sort of down at heels and dumpy and the scene of all sorts of weirdness.

From above, you can see the abstract patterns the crosswalks and the taxis make. I'm always glad I don't drive in New York. Mostly I take the bus or walk. We have retrieved our bikes from our son's house. Maybe we will try out the relatively new bike path down the side of 8th Avenue.

The green umbrella belongs to the man who sells fruit and vegetables. 4 bananas for a dollar. Just now he has good blueberries.
But I do miss the fruit in Morocco and am astounded by the prices of food here - especially bread.
