Few New Yorkers object to having their photos taken.
I almost always ask first.
23rd Street
A scene on 6th Avenue. The tourists had just had their photo
taken by the young passerby who was returning the camera.
Ah, the iconic Obama image by Sheperd Fairey has spawned a zillion imitations.
Here one dear to my heart.
A gallery on 23rd Street has a painted floor
Not to mention a plate with peas on it that seems to smile.
The tea pot looks quite friendly too.
The Holy Apostles' Garden on 9th Avenue
has fairly infrequently seen red aquilegia.
How small the people on the other side of the track look
with the red stripe over their heads.
I love all the photos. What a handsome fire fighter. ;-))))))

Lovely photos.. my favorites - the smiling pea with the friendly teapot and the red aquilegas!
ReplyDeleteEverything and everyone looks friendly in this post.
ReplyDeleteDo you agree that NYC is a nicer place since 9/11?
I love the dog poster photo and the gallery window photo. Great light.
ReplyDeleteyou out there flirting with firefighters again!? good on ya!
ReplyDeleteyour street scene photos always have such a perfect NY feel to them
Actually those are Columbine not aquilegas ... LOVE the fireman!
ReplyDeleteLove your photos today. Your work always makes me want to head to the city for a day, and just hang out, walk, absorb.
ReplyDeleteThese photos made me smile!
ReplyDeleteReya: Yes, I do try to be cheerful in my blog, and yes 9/11 made NY much friendlier -- much more a feel of 'we are all in this together' which is something ALL of us should celebrate anyway...
ReplyDeleteDianne: Yes, such a handsome young man!
Dearest Daryl
ReplyDeleteThe aquilegia is indeed a columbine
AND vice versa!
Great photos, as usual, and blogerish in the best of ways. I never have the nerve to ask people if I can photograph them - wish I did.
ReplyDeleteI love your kind and gentle depictions of New York.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter takes the Bolt Bus all the time!
What a nice smile! And that yellow line needs a repaint job.... A fun set of pictures. Have just finished The Balkan Trilogy and by the end of the last days in Athens everyone is saying 'we're all in this together' - as they were saying in London during the bombing, and more latterly, of course, following 9/ll. It seems to take a catastrophe to heighten this meaning all over again.
ReplyDeletewow, Elizabeth, the first photo of the fireman is really good! and I love the gallery and subway shots - I'm all about the angles and lines - nice
ReplyDeleteVery cool - especially your lunch! :-)
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a smiling pea pod before - but it really did make me smile.
ReplyDeleteCute fireman! I love the term “bloggerish.” Yummy looking lunch. Very cool subway shot. The modularity and bright colors make me think of Mondian.
ReplyDeleteI love your splashes of red, E. I have some red aquilegia in my garden . . . and don't remember planting them. (Perhaps the birds helped?)
ReplyDeleteI HAD to take a pic of an old woman with her many, many dogs (sitting in front of Jane Austen's house) for you yesterday . . . I will email it you.
Love the 'lost' poster!
ReplyDeleteBravo from far off Hawaii. Which is paradise?
ReplyDeleteAnother interesting collection of photo..i agree with Paz...that's one handsome firefighter!
ReplyDeleteLove 'em all....
ReplyDeleteI like that Adopt poster! What a terrific idea!! I wonder if Sheperd Fairey designed that one, too?
ReplyDeleteMy favorite was the newspaper in the door. I think I like the story of it. Ofcourse that firefighter was pretty hot too.
ReplyDeletepink new york times and floor...
ReplyDeleteWhat an excellent shadow shot!
you make your city look wonderful with your pictures... the fire fighter is cool! :)
ReplyDeleteWell that first photo took my breath away, what a treat.
ReplyDeleteI recently visited NY for the first time with my family, and were were all completely bowled over by the sheer vitality of the place. Truly fabulous.
Oh goodness. That ADOPT poster is dangerous for me to see. I am always tempted, but don't know if we could handle more than two. Maybe I should volunteer.
ReplyDeleteyour lunch looks quite tasty miss blogger!
ReplyDeleteI'm still thinking of writing my book list!
All lovely photos - and such diversity - how New York. I love the subway photo. Although my recollections of subways, it's never that bright.
ReplyDeleteA great collection of photos. I have to agree with the others about that firefighter being quite handsome :)
ReplyDeleteOh and you lunch looked yummy!
Oh the fireman... what is it in the gene pool that they are all that cute?
ReplyDeleteAnd your lunch looks so artful and LIGHT!
I've been gone from internet access for a week and before that, was a slave to a project I had to get done... took about three weeks.... much to catch up on here.
Just discovered your site, great pics of the city.
ReplyDeleteYour comment about asking people to have their picture taken is something I've been struggling with lately. I have mainly focused on scenery and animals, but have gotten more interested in getting shots of people. I'm hesitant to ask for permission because I feel like it changes their demeanor, making them self-conscious. So I find myself trying to be sneaky to get candid shots, which diminishes my enjoyment of taking photos. Funny how we can complicate the simplest acts by thinking about it too much.
