Tribeca Film Festival and Union Square

We went to the best film I've seen in ages yesterday. Here and There
(Tamo I Ovde) is set in Belgrade and New York and is about ordinary people,
has no glossy movie stars, was fairly low-budget, is incredibly funny
and was quietly romantic. The sort of movie that gets raves at
festivals and then vanishes without trace because of the lack of celebrities.

Odd to go to a movie at 12 noon.

Walked home through Union Square feeling buoyed up by the movie.
Feeling even more cheered by the many and various people there with
opinions that they were free to proclaim

and discuss.

  1. Fancy someone putting Napoleon's name on a poster with Bush and Hitler.

One of the thing I remember about a tourist bus we took in NY was the explanation behind the word 'Tribeca'.

  2. (sorry that sounded a bit of a sharp finish - Mr FF was telling me to hurry up and go - we're playing online Scrabble)

  3. One of the things I love about this country is that we are truly allowed to express our opinions. Yes!

I love going to the movies in the middle of the day. It's so disorienting to walk out of the theater into daylight. Fun. I feel like I've played hooky or something.

    Great pics!

  4. I hadn't heard of this film before, thanks for the tip, Elizabeth! I've always liked going to the matinee showings...leaves the rest of the day to unfold and think about the film. Happy weekend, my friend ((HUGS))

  5. Sounds like a nice film. I prefer the mid day films, too. Usually less crowds, and there's always the "escape" feeling that Reya mentioned.

  7. I mostly enjoy the places you take me in your blog, but sometimes I am just envious. Like today. What a treat it would be to go see a wonderful film at noon, at the Tibeca Film Festival no less! Sigh.

  14. You make me want to throw the steaks in the fire and walk to the movie theater at High Noon! :-)

  15. I'll keep an eye for "Here and There" at the ONLY (almost) movie theater around me that cares enough to run great movies independently of revenues.

  16. I hope that film makes its way over here. Some of my fave films have been low-budget indie flicks with no famous people in them. I often find really famous people to be distracting to the films. I much prefer to view a film featuring actors that I don't know :)
