Penn Station. Friday afternoon.
The Long Island Railroad train draws in.
The weather outside is frightful. Such wintry skies over Forest Hills.
The decor of the On Parade Diner on Jericho Turnpike in Syosset is totally over the top.
One of the waiters adopts the pensive pose of James Dean in the mural.
Yet another lot of evocative images elizabeth - love the light in that last shot.
ReplyDeleteHicksville, huh?
ReplyDeleteAlways love your snippets of life in NYC! You sure do get out and about a lot. Always on the go. Your life seems very exciting! That last photo is my fave shot. Hicksville station? Is it serioulsy called Hicksville? That's funny! You're not making it up are you? I'm going to google it. I'm curious now :)
ReplyDeleteJust stopping by to say I love your photos and I love your blog!
ReplyDeletePoor Hicksville.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's real and a perfectly nice place.
Started by a family called Hicks who came originally from England, as all the best people do (hah!)
There is/was a Hicks farm and nursery garden.
So familiar with it, had quite forgotten some people might find it odd!
Robert wonders if there is a Palookahville somewhere -- suffering similarly.
ah nyc...
ReplyDeletemy dream city
i love the last shot:)

ReplyDeleteHi Elizabeth! Very nice shadow shots! Your last photo is dreamy, I do like them all. I really enjoy seeing NY through your eyes, happy Sunday to you! xo
ReplyDeleteMore great shadows Elizabeth, they are very atmospheric.
ReplyDeleteTalking of which would you like to blog around the letter 'A'?
Photos as well if you like?
You and your camera can make everything so incredibly enticing! I wouldn't want to be waiting for the train anywhere but in your photos, especially the pink sunset lit one, I would wait for hours.
ReplyDeleteAaah, we share an artist's eye on her world. Wonderful shots - I love the scurry of people in the first as a vivid contrast to the last.
ReplyDeleteI like the pink bounce of light! Sigmund and I had a very chilly walk at twilight and there were lovely illuminated clouds.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, lovely shots!
ReplyDeletePaz
The first photo is interesting and says it all about a station.
ReplyDeleteYou are very brave taking the shots or maybe you do it on zoom.
I have been to New York once and only for three days-which I greatly enjoyed and want to go back one day. My friend and I caught a train into town from Sleepy Hollow (newly named?) where we stayed for one night. The announcement from the guard was something like, 'This train goes to (insert place names for x's)x,x,x,x and x. If you are not going to any of those places, you're on the wrong train.' A bit harsh but straight and to the point! Love your photos as always, especially the last one.
ReplyDeleteIt's photo One that fascinates me! I feel a poem coming on!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots Elizabeth! The last one is our favorite though - quite nice!
ReplyDeleteAgain great shots, the last one especially, the sublime train station!
ReplyDeleteI had to tag you today Elizabeth. No pressure to play along. mostly I wanted my readers to see your blog. I always enjoy your writing & love your pics.
ReplyDeleteHappy Groundhog day!
New York and Hicksville.... not two words that you would normally think to be in the same sentence. Love the pictures, being a little country girl from Kentucky, the BIG city looks a bit scary to me. My teenage daughter would love it, I would be terrified. Even in Hicksville....
ReplyDeleteshiny train..and shadows, very nice.
ReplyDeleteYou've an interesting life, Elizabeth. I'd love popping around everywhere to take photos one day too, without the worries of work and everything else. The shot of the train makes it so shiny silver..
ReplyDeleteThe poem has been written and it will be on my blog on the 6th plus a credit to you. Hope you visit!
ReplyDeletegreat pics elizabeth! whew it looks cold..but has a buzz to it for sure...! xxx j
ReplyDeleteGreat shots Elizabeth! Especially the last one is beautiful with the sunset reflected in the window.
ReplyDeleteSo winter still has NY in its grip. Well our spring is also far away. The wind is very cold and biting like frost.
I miss Penn Station!
ReplyDeleteYou have a good eye with the camera Elizabeth. I always enjoy your unique shots.
ReplyDeleteThat 20-something was so looking right at you .. she knew she was being shot ...
ReplyDeletethe shot of the waiter and the James Dean poster is amazing - you have an incredible eye for scenes - that top shot is like a movie still
ReplyDeleteI love your photos!!!
The red sun on this Sunday was magnificent - setting over the train tracks in Greenlawn too,(not too far down the line from Hickville) actually the biggest setting sun I have ever seen, a huge red disk....
ReplyDeleteYou may want to watch Stephen Colbert's show for Monday...a photographer had an unexpected advnture in one of New York's train stations, I can't recall witch. Wonderful photos. Wondering if you enjoyed Philp Pullman's Dark Materials Trilogy?
