R's photo taken on 23rd Street.
I get a bit bored of double reflections all over.... but at least they make shadows...this is rather a swanky place in Soho with distressed metal and indoor moss etc etc. I liked it.

Light shining through a roof in the Meatpacking District.
This was taken last Sunday. We have had two going-for-walks weekends in a row.
Yesterday. Spring Street, Soho. This is an homage de Paz. She is the queen of fire escape art.

When you look into a window, your brain compensates for reflections and distractions and sees only one thing. A camera acts differently. How tiring it would be to see two things at once.
Ohhh....that last shot. At first all I saw were distended mannequin body parts....took a bit to see the dress.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your walks and the sights that you share. You are a most wonderful tour guide Elizabeth. Have a great Sunday :)
ReplyDeleteI love that last shot..and I would love to go walking all over Kuala Lumpur one day, snapping pictures everywhere. You are the best guide to New York, happy Sunday :d
ReplyDeleteThat reflection photo is gloriously surreal. I rather like the green awning shot too as you’ve once again transformed the mundane into art. Nice to see color on this grey day, thanks.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos with all those reflections. I love the first one best, the dog looks so funny (I mean he has such an grave look on his face)!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week and thanks for your visit!
How I wish I could be there. Cliche as it might be, it is true, I love NY. Great blog you have here.
ReplyDeleteI like all your shots, I had never thought about how the brain sees things differently from the camera.
ReplyDeleteYour wonderful 'captures' never cease to amaze and delight, Elizabeth.
ReplyDeletethe dog photo is classic and the seemingly floating legs of the maniquin - and I would take a day in the princess bed and stack of books!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great collection of shots. I love the reflected shadow shots... and your last statement is so true about the difference between the camera's eye and the human eye, which filters out distractions.
ReplyDeleteAlways fun seeing New York through your excellent eyes.
This brings back memories, my brother-in-law used to have a building supply company in the meat packing district. Looks likes it has changed a bit since the 80s. Nice photos. Snowing again in England...
ReplyDeleteLOL! I LOVE your fire escape shot, complete with shadows. Just recently, I took some more fire escape shots, which I'll have to post, soon. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAlso love your window shots. I always wondered why I never noticed all the other things going on when I take a window shot. Thanks for the explanation about how the brain compensates, etc... Very interesting.
Happy Sunday!
Paz
I love reflections AND fire escapes .. nice collection
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shadow shot...the sweet sad doggy seems to have an opinion about the 'passerbys'! The mannequin body parts...!!New York as seen the unique vision on Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteI love the double reflections!
ReplyDeleteLovely shots.
ReplyDeleteA lovely walk it must have been.
What a brilliant day for a walk! I love the double reflections. The first one with the reflection of the dog (of course) and the last one with the mannequin!
ReplyDeletexo
that first shot is wonderful!! made me smile and smile
ReplyDeleteI love the reflective shadow shots. Fantastic photos!
ReplyDeleteI love the puppy face!
ReplyDeleteYou have done it again- I have been looking at these photos over and over and over- wonderful- all of them- the mopey dog face might become my new screen saver, if you don't mind.
ReplyDeleteLove the shots of the reflections. Have you played with a polarizing filter? They're especially handy for filtering out reflected light - or for focusing solely upon the filtered light.
ReplyDeleteSay hello to Paz for me. ;)
That dog shot is so lovely.Well they all are really but I just love dogs so much.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots all of them, Elizabeth! Love R's "portrait" at the top, and your homage to lovely Paz! :o) Happy Days ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you can imagine how much I love these pics. Actually the eye does see two things at once ... more than that ... it's within your visual cortex that your brain decides what you will be conscious of seeing.
ReplyDeleteThat truth always kind of freaks me out. Reminds me of the little guy inside the alien's head in the film Men in Black.
