High Line/Say goodbye to Tallulah, Bailey*

We had been waiting for the High Line to open for ever.
And it's wonderful.
Such a meld of post-industrial chic
and nature.

It's been written about all over the place ---
an old railway line above the streets.

Flowers and grasses planted between old railway ties.

Coneflowers against superannuated windows.
You can glimpse the river between the buildings here
and lots of river nearer 14th Street.
Lots and lots of people.

*Mother to small child. Overheard at the 20th St. exit.

  4. Saw info in the High Line on the news. Great way to make a great city even better. Someday I'll be there.

  9. Fabulous. The more green space we can make in our cities, the better - and this is a very classy green space. (or is that greenspace?)

  11. What a lovely idea Elizabeth. Here we have linear parks on what used to be old railway lines but i love the idea of one up in the air. Wish it had been there to see when we were there.

  13. I didn't know anything about this . . and had to do a bit of Googling to educate myself.

Your description and pictures make it look so appealing!

  14. We had something similar open up in Detroit recently, too - it's an old rail line turned into a biking/hiking trail called the Dequindre Cut Greenway. It's not as nice looking as the High Line, but still pretty cool.

  15. This is amazing. I am sure you know they do this to old railway lines here but never seen an overhead one done like this. Brilliant.
