  3. I love the implied rapaciousness of the camera, prawling in the middle of the night, from a taxi. ;-) Very interesting results! My favorite ones are the pictures with people in them. Nighthawks, looking for a bar that's still open? Would you please elucidate about the "Russian" (!) gas station? By name only? Special bargain, lets you pay with rubels? ;-)

  8. All: I'm afraid I got lazy and stole R's photos. Not to mention his camera is a zillion times better than mine.(A Leica!)
Merisi: the Russian Gas station sells Lukoil petrol/gasoline. The Russian national gas co. I think the first I have seen in the US.
This gas station is very popular with cab drivers.

  9. Lovely night shots. I was quite taken with the lonely figures on the streets.

  10. Good and great photos come from photographers, not their cameras.

Adams and Arbus could have used anything and still gotten great results.

    Tho Leicas are nice ...

  14. Elizabeth, nightime in the city ... in motion. Well done, you and Robert.

You know that Russian gas station actually had a grand opening and Putin was there. True, I know witnesses. It just seems so very strange, since we also know that station is right in the center of our "Chelsea art gallery district." What an amazing city we live in. Anyone might pop up anytime.

  15. I was just about to say that your photographs look like an Edward Hopper painting. And then I scrolled down and saw one that looked exactly like an Edward Hopper painting, et voila! you mentioned ... Edward Hopper.

I love, love, love New York, by the way.

    Love it!

  16. Looks like I have been beaten to the punch. I was about to say that the second-last image reminded me of an Edward Hopper painting, but I see that another sensitive, intelligent person has already made that observation. Wonderful images.

  18. The insubstantial, shadowy figure in the anonymous glare of the cityscape is very evocative.

  19. I'm getting the Hopper vibe from these too.
