Splendid Skies

Such a wonderful time of year for sky watching

particularly at dusk. On Monday everyone was snapping away madly

on their cell phones and cameras.

I'm surprised no one was run over snapping the sky.

The clouds seemed to boil and bubble.

Later in the evening the 'super moon' played hide and seek in the clouds.

Yesterday evening a blue shaft of light rose from the World Trade Center

and the Empire State Building was red white and blue.

Much More Down to Earth

*

After last week's excitement in the sky it's good to look up and see nice puffy clouds.

Or something as simple as a Winesap apple.

The same Winesap apple with mini-gourds.

Empire State Building, Billows and Balloons

Some good cloud watching lately.

Evening light turns the Empire State Building silver.
But what is this alien building rising alongside it? Hm....

Clouds billow next to the  evil crane.

And balloons pretend to be clouds.

Evening Light/ShadowShotSunday

For other cool ShadowShots go to Heyharriet.

The weather in New York this so called summer has been quite batty.
Here is an example. Friday evening about seven, all wet, billowy and thundery.

After the storm has cleared just after eight,
the setting sun cannons down 23rd Street.

At eight thirty, the sky over the Empire State Building
is all cotton ball puffy pink.
(None of the colors have been manipulated at all.)

Things Seen

Pink tinged clouds after gray upon gray.

Monsters that somehow got into a car.

A little girl waiting for a carriage ride.

And a boy having his portrait drawn.

Such Nice Stormy Skies

This blog has been sort of peaceful and pastoral lately,
so I thought I'd go urban and wild.
(Yesterday afternoon on 23rd Street.)
I hope everyone enjoyed the Haiku Festival as much as Tracy and I did
and I hope I didn't make too many errors in the list.

It didn't rain yesterday for a wonder,
but the clouds were billowing and lowering
and there were some of those 'hand of God' shafts
of light which look so dramatic.

Where's Waldo says: Spot the Empire State Building.

Such Splendid Skies

This morning in Centerport, Long Island, looking north towards Connecticut.

So  tranquil and quiet.
This afternoon from 23rd Street looking west towards New Jersey.

Such drama. A front approaching. Snow. Storm. Something. The flag should be waving on top of a castle.

Such billows with darkness above.

Pool/Sky/Float

This morning the sun shines on the pool.

Reflecting the tall oak trees which surround it.

This particular float is very comfortable.
The dog jumps off the side of the pool and uses it as his boat.
I lie on it and look at the clouds.

Yesterday evening this cloud, catching the evening light, was astounding.
Such movement bubbling and boiling inside it.

Amazing Skies All Over the Place

I think we are back to "A" in Mrs.Nesbitt's ABC Wednesday. I hope we are. If we are not, then these "AMAZING" clouds will just have to float into the blogosphere under their own steam...........
When you live in a house with no windows (the medina of Marrakech) and your courtyard is open to the sky, you spend a lot of time looking upwards.

When you stand on the roof you notice first the clouds and then the huge numbers of ariels which are not pretty.
Studying the sky is a useful and peaceful occupation.

Another shot from the courtyard looking up.

This is from the day in December when the bus had a little accident (no one hurt!) between Marrakech and Essouira, looking out across the stony desert.

Six o'clock in the morning on Christmas Eve looking East from the battlements of Essouira.

Back to recent New York. Last Saturday looking across the Hudson River at New York from New Jersey, just when the bus had emerged from the tunnel.

Last of all Sunday afternoon from the Red and Tan bus -about to descend into the tunnel.
