Haunted Huntington

Long Island was far harder hit by the blizzard than NewYork city.

Here is the cemetery in  Huntington in a thick fog with a spectral snow plow.

Three in the afternoon, no color tweaking, no filters --just fog.

Suitably gloomy and mysterious.

Power lines galore --all above ground.

Leaving town on the train.

Am hoping pretty soon to post cheery pictures of spring. Well.......

  1. The combination of fog and snow is very powerful. But don't you long for some bright colours now? I'm imagining a wonderful hot turquoise sea....

  3. Hi! I am your newest follower. I have never been to New York but I can't wait to visit some time! I love all the pictures on your blog.

  4. All of those little shops that look like they've been there for fifty years (or more), and the dirty grey snow along the road. Still looks cold.

  5. I like your natural fog "filter". It's lucky you got out. Our trains didn't run for days.

  7. How we long for spring, we are so weary of the cold. Having said that, there is a beauty in the misty icy atmosphere you have captured.

  8. Something about fog that makes even the commonplace seem really spooky. Love your foggy fotos. We don't get much fog here where it's so high and dry.

  9. Hello Elizabeth:
All that grey, gloom, fog and cold. This is indeed winter! And whilst we too look forward to the arrival of spring, we are quite content with all that this season has to offer.

  10. I would enjoy getting out on the train away from Manhattan like that, into the fog with camera in hand. We had fog after our big snow storm last Saturday, and as we drove to Grand Rapids to be with our grandson, it was so beautiful in the fields, I just wanted to get out and walk with my camera. But I couldn't, so I had to just take it in.

    Love your photos.

  14. I was in the middle
more than Manhattan and far less than LI
we got about a foot of snow

the response to the snow in Suffolk County was pathetic
a friend had to have her grandmother brought out of her house on snowmobile and then she met her and tried to take her back to NYC using back roads since the LIE was a disaster
    ridiculous

    your photos are great!!

  15. It's incredibly grey! Even foggier than here in Finland. It's been very cloudy and grey for a month here, but finally today the sun was shining.

  16. Hello dear Elizabeth !
Your photographs of Long Island have really captured the essence of your experience and me? I like the feel!! This may sound weird, but I like gloomy days, (as long as the people I care about or I am not traveling). Gray days make me feel creative and happy and alive! Must be my Norwegian heritage. I adore cooking, painting or writing during these moments in time. It's like being in a womb.

Hugs to you and thanks for the fantastic photographs!

    Love,
    Constance
