Shadow Shots tend to be a bit abstracty. Here the Viceroy diner on 8th Avenue and 18th Street, rather early in the morning before anyone except one waiter was there.
The red window of the same.
The red window of the same.
Huge flag as one leaves Penn Station to go to Macy's, taken on the day a black-clad swat team with machines guns out was patrolling the station. Thought of asking if I could take a photo. Decided not to...
Gray and black legs in the City Bakery. So New York uniformish. In fact, there have been some exciting red coat sightings of late.........
You can buy all sorts of things at the Green Market.......decorative cabbages.....a Cabbage Patch Kid?
Gorgeous images - and I love the look of your book, I shall be clicking on the link to order my copy. xv
ReplyDeleteI watched Tom Cruise last night in Mission Impossible, your New York could have been the setting for this plot, very scarey how we too have become a police state. But your tours of the Big Apple always delight.
ReplyDeleteI could get lost for hours on your blog! Great shadows Elizabeth.
ReplyDeletecabbage patch kid!! lol
ReplyDeletestunning photos
your mention of the swat team gave me a chill - funny how we just co-exist with that
I have seen so much increased security and it is a stark contrast to the holiday decor
I took a photo of a few officers with their dogs and was immediately surrounded!! they did understand I meant no harm but they asked to see the photos and watch while I deleted them
I get it
What great photos! And the Cabbage Patch Kid was the finishing touch. So funny!
ReplyDeleteI adore the Viceroy Diner shot. The old tile floor and vintage looking furniture. Perfect. Let's have lunch.
ReplyDeletelike Willow, I also love the Viceroy Diner shot - it could be a place in so many cities - it took me back to shopping in the city as a little girl with my mom and we would end up in a very similar place for lunch in Seattle.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images,
ReplyDeletebut that Cabbage Patch Kids tops all!
(Do you remember the Cabbage Patch dolls craze? *smile*)
The flag reminds me of Lord&Taylor's on Fifth Avenue. Do they still play the National anthem when the open the store in the morning?
Red coats! How amazing. You sure are right about the uniform.
ReplyDeleteI love the first shot with almost a double exposure look. And yes, a cabbage patch kid, right in front of you!
Your New York shots are a delight. How can anyone go past the Cabbage Patch Kid?
ReplyDeleteThe Cabbage Patch kid is funny! I love the thought of you asking the Swat Team to post for a photo. Maybe next time? :)
ReplyDeleteThese are all wonderful glimpses of New York. Such fun shadow shots! :)
I'm catching up with your posts as I've been out of town this weekend. I'm wondering when Cabbage Patch Dolls started coming with hydrangea bouquets~ I must have missed that advert in the newspaper. Definitely cute~!
ReplyDeleteI like how the street just blends in with the glass.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the big flag. No matter where you see that flag it gives you a lift. The contrast of darks and lights and the back-lit scene sort of illustrate the comments on the freedom of the country with the undertone of darkness.
ReplyDeleteRed coat sightings? In NY? How exciting!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! Love the pant shadows, and the 'cabage patch!'
ReplyDeleteKarla & Karrie
I love your cabbage patch kid! So sweet is also the girl face popping from behind the mother's shoulder.
ReplyDeleteYour first shadow shot is wonderful. Almost looks like it was a double exposure or something. Very cool.
So true - the Lion in my header is "Fortitude" at the Main Library all decked out last year in hisChristmas finery :)
ReplyDeleteI do NYC at Christmas!
Very interesting photos as usual. I am often quite wondering at times between the reflection and shadow but yours are great. So most New Yorkers often wear dark colours..is it due to the winter I wonder, or just normal office wear? Hope you have a good week ahead :D
ReplyDeleteThe Cabbage Patch baby is so adorable.
ReplyDeleteWow...there is a lot going on in the first photo...cool shot! I love the red window:) and the cabbage! The kid is pretty cute too:)
ReplyDeleteoh my Elizabeth! - such a panoply of gorgeous images - where to start?
