Still Lives

Wet weather this morning.

The rain set early in to-night,
The sullen wind was soon awake,
It tore the elm-tops down for spite,
And did its worst to vex the lake:

From Robert Browning's Porphyria's Lover a super Halloweenish poem in which a loon decides that even the weather has it in for him........

Windowsill, basil, rosemary, pumpkin, seashells.
Plate from Zagora. Embroidery from the East.

Fiesta squash, winesap apples, bowl from Marrakesh, English ironstone plate.
I have borrowed a camera which can do close-ups.
Now I'm really looking forward to Christmas.

  1. I love your fall, colorful pictures!

And that poem is perfect for today. Since I live so close to where you are, we're having the same weather.

  2. Pretty pumpkins! I found some fit for carving the other day while in Tesco. I let them be, however. Halloween just isn't the same over here.

On the other hand, Christmas decorations have been up for a few weeks. I was in King's Road yesterday and Peter Jones had their holiday balls up.

Your park photos are lovely, lovely!

  12. Elizabeth, the weather outside was really treacherous today, but your close up photos are grand! Well done on getting the camera that allowed you that focus.

  15. So many lovely Halloweeny blogs at the moment. Down here we're quite out of it. I suppose Halloween doesn't fit in with Spring. (Although we manage Christmas all right!)

  18. I certainly felt that the weather had it in for me today. I am seldom frightened by storms but this darkening of the sky that happened here was astonishing. And so very much rain fell so hard and so fast it felt only like danger. Then the water afterwards. Spectacular.
Have missed Marakesh and I suppose you have too. We send our love from a somewhat swampy Pembrokeshire, where I am just about to wrap up and venture out with dogs into the darkest night.
    Love your photos.
