Winter Continues Unabated...

So where did we leave off in this sad saga of unending cold?
Ah yes, with the children having fun.
So... the snow is now messy and clumpy...

Pat, the crossing guard - the one with the dog treats - is all bundled up.

They are filming at the Chelsea Square Diner - the one I'm standing outside in the post above. The cross walks are somewhat shoveled.

The 'wolf moon' visible at 2:15 in the afternoon - does that portend something?

Buster likes the snow.

It's something to eat  - and he likes eating.

This morning it is 13 degrees F with a windchill of who knows what.

Vapor billows from the drains in scenic fashion.

It's better to walk home briskly

to contemplate the fruit some more

and dream of warm days ahead.

PS. 4 -8 inches of snow predicted for tomorrow night!

Wandering

If you have a dog you end up having to go out in all weathers.

This is good and bad -- at the moment mostly bad.
Here a tangle of bicycles on 8th Avenue.

And a reflection of the same.

This morning the sun, at 8 o'clock, hid behind a water tower.

Ice and Horses

The Hudson River is cluttered with thick chunks of ice.
The center of the river moves extremely swiftly. How one would hate to fall into it.

Chelsea Piers. Friday afternoon, looking west towards New Jersey.

Clearing the ice on Pier 63.

Mechanical horses for children at Chelsea Piers.....

...and real horses on 8th Avenue.

A Very Cold Afternoon at the Beach

We left it rather late to go down to the beach.
It was beastly cold.
Here Huntington Bay looking towards Northport.

The ubiquitous reeds and bare tree against fading light.
There were some kids at the beach with their dog.
One of the boys was wearing shorts. Ah youth...

The little boats don't look very inviting.

Luckily Celeste has a very inviting chair by the fire...

...and offers a nice cup of tea.

It Snows in Tappan

Hm........snow.
Very pretty.

But very cold.

I volunteered to take the dog for a walk.
He pulled on his leash so it was hard to take pictures.

A little bit like a Christmas tree?

The dog got lumps of snow under his legs etc etc. On the whole he enjoyed his outing.
