My Latest Project

Accompanied by my trusty companion, and inspired by Luis in the post above, I decided to adopt a neglected tree enclosure near my apartment.  It was plain, hard dirt with a confetti of cigarette butts. I added some top soil, potting soil and a few pale nicotinia.

Yesterday I went up to the green market at Union Square and picked up a few other little annuals.

The front of the metal railing is missing, so I imagine my little garden will get dug in and peed on and generally abused. But if it only lasts for a few days it will have been worth it. If it survives and thrives, I will post another picture of it.

  1. The little garden looks so happy! Buster may need help getting over the little fence to water the plants...the ones that Dexter waters are growing more lush than the others...magic water...

  2. However long it lasts, passersby will enjoy it. Perhaps they will even restrain themselves from littering for awhile.

  4. Thank you for your comments about Michael. Yes, it is heart breaking that not all such children are born to families able to care for them.

  6. How lovely! And what a great idea! Hopefully passersbys will appreciate it enough to not litter -- at least for awhile! Hope your weekend is off to a great start! Enjoy!

  7. I do hope it survives for a few days at least! Even if only (say) fifty people enjoy it before ruffians come along, you'll feel satisfied.

  15. We'll cross our fingers for you! There's nothing like a bit flowers in the city!
I've been meaning to ask if Jane in Spring is available still? Let me know, my daughter has been pestering me about asking you :)

  17. I have my fingers crossed that your sweet little garden thrives! Buster looks as though he's keen to continue guarding it. Or is it Buster that you have concerns about being the source of the pee? I'm sure he wouldn't do such a thing. He'd visit the gardens of your neighbours for that ;D

  23. Dear Elizabeth-

people like you, it´s what our earth needs... making it a little bit more beautiful.

I love trees. They´re like an old, wise friend... They spend Energy and good air to breath...

What a wonderful day, to give a little bit back to this tree, what it gaves us...

    Love and kisses- Ines
