The End of February

The New york City Public Schools were closed today much to the delight of the local children.

Time to go to the park and make snowballs.

In the afternoon a slight thaw set in.

A twisted willow tree  freighted with fluffy snow on 21st Street.

Looking Towards the Hudson at Night

Blogger seems to have altered the way you compose things --and , needles to say, I'm confused.
The light is always fascinating when it's almost dark,
or dark at street level, but the day remains suspended in the sky.

I'm not quite sure what is behind the colored windows.
The cage thing on the left is a golf range down by Chelsea Piers.

An advertisement for a vast U-Haul storage place. Storage is a huge business here in Manhattan since people both move a lot and also acquire all sorts of things that would clutter their often small apartments. Space is the thing people long for here more than anything else.

Lots of little vans you can hire to haul all your either useful or useless stuff around the place........

Squares and Windows

Brilliant crisp morning light.

More of the same.

An interior window between the bar and the dining room at The Half King on 23rd Street.
The bar is painted the most wonderful terra cotta pink.

Thursday on 22nd Street

Bars on a window. 22nd Street

A poster hiding behind a metal fence.

Somehow the posters were all put up wobbly and not flattened out.

For some reason, I liked the color of the reflections in the car.

Excellent Dumpling

For the best scallion pancakes go to Excellent Dumpling

on Lafayette Street near Canal.
Totally no frills. You are in and out in about 15 minutes.
Wonderful.

Subway

Everyone looks rather bored hanging about waiting for the train.

The only solution, really, is to eat stuff.

From a Distance

On the whole, I prefer things up rather close so they aren't so overwhelming.
Here the Manhattan skyline seen from the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel.
Monday January 18th.

13th Street looking south over the roofs of the West Village.
Tuesday 19th January

13th Street looking north.
This is the view from where I get my hair cut.

Yellow, and a Morning Conversation

8:30 am on a cold morning on 22nd Street.

8:45 am The West Side Highway a symphony in chrome yellow,
not to mention the big pails with sand and grit in them
and the traffic lights and the school bus.

I really don't much like bright yellow
 - but I suppose it is used so people notice it.
This van says "TRUCK 'N ROLL"
The bit of the High Line looms above.

Strange Phenomena

This morning I saw this lone glove on the railings near where I live.
I'm not sure whether anyone will ever claim it.

This appeared last week in the same place.
Is it a sort of sign language? Is there a message to the universe?

Last year someone documented all the lost, lone gloves of New York.
I will keep you posted when others appear at this location.
