Blue

Subway musicians

with a good line of patter: "Don't be like Congress - pass a bill!" So I did.

Saturday afternoon in Soho - snowing again.

Sunday morning intersection...

I feel really sorry for the bicycle delivery men (oddly, there don't seem to be delivery women).  A cold job and a dangerous one too.

The trees are pretty with a light coating of ice.

Back indoors...

I look for blue things

and fruit

and more blue things...

Tomorrow the high temperature will be 22F

Home Again/Ah New York!

After an absence one looks at the same old stuff with new-washed eyes.

American vernacular architecture in Coram, Long Island.

Very bling clothing on 7th Avenue.

And the hat!

New graffiti posters on 22nd Street.

And the people! Handicapped children being taken for a walk in Union Square.

For some reason, this magazine dispenser on the corner of 8th Avenue seems to be smiling.

As is Michael, seen here with the garbage truck driver
whose yellow overalls caught the morning light.

A sign of the season: a detail from one of Berch's paintings
on the window of the SE corner of 9th Avenue and 23rd Street.

ps A super new blog from my friend, fellow Brit, dog owner and artist
You will enjoy his sketches of animals and quirky taste in general.

The Little Garden Survives/Shadowshot Sunday

For more shadowshots from around the world go

A little jaded and worse for wear but still there............

in spite of taxis and garbage and everything else........

Luis Lujan's garden (25th Street and 9th Avenue) had a pretty rough week.
It was pretty much dug up when they redid the concrete surround.
But with care and attention it has rebounded.

my main blog is now here

Outrageous Lighting or Bloggers Evening Out/ABC

This blogger rarely goes out in the evening.
But when she is invited to join Alexa and Lori and Ming in welcoming Eric, of Paris Daily Photo, to New York, she manages to take the bus up 23rd Street to Broadway.

Pipa, on 19th Street, has an amazing number of chandeliers - you can buy them or merely enjoy them.
Ming has a much better picture.

The affects of light are very pretty.
The sangria delicious.
The company delightful.
We talked about healthcare and politics.........and Paris.

On the way out, I look back into the restaurant.
Always rather fun - being outside gazing in.

The first very cold, wet, windy night.
I give up and take a taxi home.

Early Morning Light

The sun emerges behind the Empire State Building just after 7am. and sends a shaft of light down 23rd Street.
It is now cloudy.
I like the taxi escaping lower left...........
I am off to England tonight.

From the Roof

Robert took these pictures the other day from the roof of our building. I can always rely on him to see the world a little differently than I do. In fact he uses some of his photos as jumping off places for his pictures. Take your own pictures and turn them into super calendars  . They make excellent gifts too!

Anyway, looking east you can see the Chelsea Hotel - a most bizarre and interesting place. Sort of down at heels and dumpy and the scene of all sorts of weirdness.

From above, you can see the abstract patterns the crosswalks and the taxis make. I'm always glad I don't drive in New York. Mostly I take the bus or walk. We have retrieved our bikes from our son's house. Maybe we will try out the relatively new bike path down the side of 8th Avenue.

The green umbrella belongs to the man who sells fruit and vegetables. 4 bananas for a dollar. Just now he has good blueberries.
But I do miss the fruit in Morocco and am astounded by the prices of food here - especially bread.
