Trick or Treat

Yes, it's snowing.

Doesn't look very inviting out. It's not meant to snow until Thanksgiving at least.
No one can remember it snowing for Halloween.

It's snowing enough to bend the branches down

and cling to the pin-oak leaves.

This picture looks a bit Christmassy.

Even the dog is confused.......

by Sunday morning

it was pretty much melted.

A Walk Round the Pond/Centerport LI

We used to live in a house backing on to the little nature preserve that contained this pond.

So I used to tramp round it every day.

And look at the bittersweet reflected in the water.

This is a particularly lovely time of year because of the dramatic colors. In February it is subtle, dull and muddy but I used to go there anyway.

There have been a lot of f leaf pictures in the blogosphere lately - but how can one possibly resist?
Elizabeth Bunsen's are among the very best.

This time of year I always think of Shelley's description of fallen leaves:

O WILD West Wind, thou breath of Autumn's being—
Thou from whose unseen presence the leaves dead
Are driven, like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing,
Yellow, and black, and pale, and hectic red,
Pestilence-stricken multitudes!

The bright moss looks exactly like green velvet.
Now I'm off to vote!
