Green Market

Met Finnish foodie Liisa at Union Square which is foodie heaven....

so not much time spent admiring the flowers, instead

a morally pure bakery --spelt and gluten free and reminding me a little of the the seventies.

The very apotheosis of lettuce. I actually like to eat this stuff. I would not care if I ever saw an iceberg lettuce ever again.

How cabbage crinkles!

Spring onions (very good in potato salad).

A portrait of ramps.....

Now we get to the actually good stuff: pure maple syrup candy sweet enough to make your head spin and the fillings in your teeth tingle. I have been addicted to it for years.

But it is utter bliss and made of wonderfully pure things and therefore good for you. Pecan is my favorite.  They gave me their card DeepMountainMaple so I hope they will give me a free sample next time I'm up there....ah! the power of blogging.

  2. Natural is always best. I want to see those huge tulip buds open. I wonder if they're parrot tulips. It was another fun excursion with you.

  3. Wonderful photos...I was so impressed with the freshness of produce in NYC. We wondered how that could be and assumed it came from farms fairly close.

  6. In reply to Lisa: All the produce at the green market is local --well, the maple syrup people have to drive from Vermont but it's all fresh and super.

  8. Unusuak tulips in the first picture. Love the cabbage and candy-Andy's Mum has brought us that back from America-delicious. What are ramps? They look like spring onions but with tulip leaves.
    I liked Summer Clearance!

  14. Elizabeth, every time I see those folks with the maple sugar candy, I am so, so tempted. To date, I have resisted. However, I also love pecans and I think the market is open today, and today is a day off and ....

  16. Ooh, lovely stuff. Last time I was in New York I had to hurry past it at top speed, I forget why now, but I do remember it was intensely frustrating. Thank you for the super photos, which also look good enough to eat.
