Here are the flowers from the garden --the daffs and grape hyacinth
in little jugs on the mantlepiece
in front of the map of Long Island.
Here is the mother-to-be opening her gifts
to the delight of her family and friends
and of course there was food.

A baby shower is such a joyful celebration and how symbolic of spring.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, most of us "rabbit people" really cringe when reminded of the association between rabbits and Easter. Every year, thousands of rabbits are purchased as "gifts" for children who lose interest within a couple of months. Well meaning people often have no idea how to properly care for a rabbit. Thousands of bunnies each year wind up being neglected and accruing serious physical and emotional damage in the months following Easter, and too many are simply let out onto the streets where they are cold (or hot), defenseless, have no way to find food, and are subject to cars and predation.
ReplyDeleteIf you (reader) are considering purchasing a rabbit, please undestand that rabbits are high-maintenance, social animals with an average lifespan of about 10 years, but can live longer. They should be in the home with the family. The home will need to be rabbit-proofed for the safety of the rabbit and for your belongings. They can be destructive, need special diets, and they require HAY in the diet which makes a big mess. Rabbits They should be spayed or neutered.
Consider a chocolate rabbit (or plush, as Elizabeth shows in her post).

Yes, rabbits make super pets --if people are willing to look after them properly.
We used to live in Morocco where they dyed day old chicks bright colors on holidays and gave them to little kids.....
not a good idea
once in a very great while you would see an almost grown-chicken wandering round with shocking pink bits on it.
What a fun party that must have been! Loved the fresh flower decoration.
ReplyDeleteLisa is right, people so often bring home a creature because it is "cute" and expect it to behave like a plush toy.
I was at the farmers' feed store today and loved checking out all the baby chicks and bunnies for sale. Most of them will go home to be raised by people who know what they are doing. Just in case I was tempted--a big brown bunny let loose a huge stream of urine in his cage. Yup, not taking home any more things that pee and poop.
I do like the little jug arrangement.
