The New Whitney

We walked down The High Line to the new Whitney Museum on Wednesday. It has been open since last April and really it was pretty lazy of us not to have got there before.

Dramatic but dull views over the Hudson from the stunning building.

Inside lots of old favorites like Reginald Marsh's drunken sailors and good time girls.

Lots of newer things which make me glad I no longer write art reviews. The interior spaces are gorgeous and cathedral-like.

Dark clothes look rather good with all the white walls and plain floors.

The balls on the Christmas tree thing reflected the people. The white part looked like plastic insulation stuff.

So much to look at!

The painting Robert liked best.

A door to a terrace where you can look down on Gaansevort Street.

On Thursday we continued doing art type things.

This last photo taken without filter the other day at dusk. I'm rather pleased with it!

  1. OMG, that photo is more beautiful than anything I saw at the Whitney. Thanks for the tour.

    1. Lots of good stuff in the Whitney....and quite a lot of stuff that is quite hard to appreciate.
The evening sky lasted only about 7 minutes - quite extraordinary.

  2. The photo of sunset, I an dieing! That is astonishing!!! The art museum , not so much but it is always good to see "Art". Fum post and isnot that wee girl becoming more lovely every day!

    1. We like to do art stuff with the kiddies - much of it just as good as things on display.
      Art perplexes me!

  3. I like the art done by the little artist best...and of course, the sunset photo!

    1. Children's art is so often lovely and pleasing.
Just as good as 'real' (!?) art - or so it seems to me.

  4. Oh My Goodness, the last photo is outstanding.
I don't have filters on my phone and wouldn't understand how to use them.
But that photo with the clouds flowing in front of the sunset is wonderful.

    cheers, parsnip

  5. The light in that last photographs is wonderful Elizabeth.
As for the other photographs - I am green with envy at that Museum. Love those little people sitting against the wall.

  6. Your photo wins my best of show award. Wow.

  7. Elizabeth, I appreciate your preview of what I'll eventually get around to seeing over at the new Whitney. Of course, I love the picture of your pretty granddaughter getting some excellent creative encouragement from Robert.

    The skyscape photograph is magnificent!

Fun seeing you all last week. xo

  8. I love that last photo!
Your comment regarding the building's architecture more than the art reminds me of the first few times I visited the Getty Center in LA. I was so mesmerized by the buildings that I hardly focused on the paintings.

  9. Looks a great space

    That last phot is amazing!

  10. Good morning Elizabeth!
I would love to visit Whitney Museum.
The last photo taken at dusk is stunning! Bravo!

  11. the foto looks great with the orange sky .. thanks for your comment .. nice days .. health moments ..
